Learning From Sparrows - Social Permaculture at the Border (Film screening + Debate)

December 2023. As world leaders meet at COP28 in Dubai, a group of young people clean up trash by the Roja river in Ventimiglia. Some are migrants, others participants in a social permaculture training at the nearby Torri Superiore ecovillage. Coming from 11 European countries, they explored how to build sustainable, inclusive communities by learning from nature and each other. They lived, played, and cooked together, reflecting on privilege and shared dreams. Guided by leading voices in social permaculture, they asked: how can we unite across differences to create a just, sustainable world—before it’s too late?

From Triggers to Teachers

We’re feeling good then something happens. We hear or see something, maybe even smell something. Sometimes nothing specific happens but a certain thought pops into the mind for whatever reason and we spin out of control. The body feels contracted: it’s fight or flight. We’re triggered!
Triggers are destructive when we act out of fear/anger/sadness…etc. i.e. unconscious. Triggers are, also, signals that point to areas that need love and attention. In this workshop, we’ll learn simple, easy to follow practices to use when triggered. We’ll explore ways to utilize our triggers to learn, grow, become more resilient and transform our shadows into love and light.

Workshop title

Relationship Beyond Norms:
Navigating Ethical Nonmonogamy

Nonmonogamy isn’t just about relationships—it’s about rethinking the relational structures. It’s a shift in the patriarchal cultural paradigm, carrying political dimensions that challenge our views on autonomy, choice, trust, and security. In this workshop, we’ll share insights from our personal journey of transitioning into Ethical Nonmonogamy [ENM], embracing challenges and breakthroughs. Rather than speaking as experts, we invite you to explore the struggles—and the power—of reclaiming choice, whether in choosing monogamy or embracing ENM. We’ll explore how intentional communities can support diverse relationships and how open dialogue strengthens them.

As Council provides a safe container for all kind of stories we also offer facilitating circles with the openness for any topic, which is popping up during our time together and there is a need for that. Living Library of Knowledge Transmission for Ecovillages Resilience

The “Living Library of Knowledge Transmission for Ecovillages Resilience” it’s an occasion to create a space of knowledge transmission between elders and young people from the ecovillage movement.
Setting up different spots divided by topics of knowledge, elders will sit on a side (living books) and young people on the other side (active listeners). Every 15 minutes, young people will be able to change spot, to listen to other “living books”.
We envision to create a space of deep listening, where the elders can feel in the condition of transmitting the knowledge which they consider most important for future legacy, and young people the capacity to listen with their hearts.

Katalin Orosz

Workshop holder

After my studies in natural sciences and psychology, I was introduced to the international ecovillage movement, of which I became one of the Hungarian initiators (1986). My central theme is the unfolding of personal presence through the healing of birth trauma (1994), which has a strong impact on the health and community functioning. I currently live in the Nyim eco-community (2010).

Workshop title

Being born and reborn in community

The new community functioning requires the integration of our natural side and a common space in which we heal ourselves and each other with understanding and compassion. This is based on personal development, the exercise of trust within well-established boundaries. Personal participation, honesty and responsibility in the process of engagement makes creative work possible. The workshop will give an insight into this methodology through the secrets of birth.

“I was longing for deep connections with people who want to bring positive change to the world. This gathering fulfilled that need beautifully, allowing me to connect with my ‘soul tribe.’”
